My brother Reno is on a mission. A self effacing mission and mission devoid of sense as he fronts in the media his principals while I have without any prompting jumped on the side of MTN simply because I hate bullying.
Reno is a master bully. He uses his access to social media and uncouth mannerisms to bully people and organisations knowing that they would not want to go into a fight with someone who really has nothing to lose.
Going into a media war WITH Reno is like a pastor fighting a prostitute. The Prostitute would quickly strip and jump into the fray while the Pastor would be struggling to protect his dignity.
This is the kind of fight that Reno wants to drag MTN into and those ones have maintained a dignified silence despite all the salvo and attacks hiding under a nationalistic verve which is nothing but odious.
What are the facts.
His people only paid N1.6 billion when threatened with disconnection by the regulator;
After reconciliation and negotiation, MTN agreed to accept N2 billion as the compound interest dating back to 2009 rather than N3 billion;
VAT payments made on behalf of his people will be recovered through engagement with FIRS once they reconcile who has paid what;
Any organisation that celebrates having to pay N2 billion in compound interest on payments it owes is not serious. Payments made on time and normal process would have resulted in no interest. His people are celebrating only having to pay N2 billion it should never have incurred if it acted properly;
It was Nigeria’s telecom regulator that ordered the disconnection. MTN cannot do so independently.
These are the pure facts as gleaned from sources within the regulatory environment any other thing outside of this is vomit from Reno and his people.
So taking a full page article to abuse me and calling me all sort of names is beside the point. It is only distraction but not enough to give succor to his people who reeling from a depth of corporate governance are under pressure to meet up obligations
What Reno and his ‘Henry Omoregie’ the pseudonym I believe was used to attack me yesterday do not know or have refused to reconcile is the fact that this issue has led to the death of many SMEs who have been owed severally.
You can imagine what would have happened to MTN if it didn’t have the size or capacity to contain this level of debt. N2b on interest? Then imagine how much the principal is.
Too many lives have been lost, too many businesses have collapsed as a result of this pepratual lack of meeting up with contractual engagements and responsibilities by this particular citizen.
So it’s not whether Edgar failed in Alumni elections or whether Edgar has inferiority complex baring any English names like his ‘Henry’, it’s maintaining FDI confidence in our economy and regulatory environment.
We are laminating the withdrawal of FDIs and the attedant loss of jobs, loss in Government revenues, increase in inflation as a direct hit from the scarcity of goods and services and yet this illiterate chimpanzee is out there jumping from one leprose tree to the other in search of bananas without as much of a care as to what his activity is doing to the environment
My brother Reno or Henry, let’s have an open debate on this matter and the economic and regulatory implication on the economy and on Nigerians at any time and on any platform of your choice.
You cannot continue to be hiding under the unfettered access to social media that you have to be firing shots and then be clapping and be dancing like the chipmunk that you are.
Nationalism or patriotism is not what you represent. It’s meeting contractual obligations especially to foreign counterparts so that we are not labelled international rogues and this is why the Federal Government despite the tight situation would rather meet their obligations to international debt organisations than buying a new Presidential jet.
Imagine Nigeria running around and calling Paris club names instead of paying them, how would that look?
This is what you get when you get stark economic illiterates to carry out a campaign of calumny in an area they really do not knw anything about.
They had better stop this rubbish before a foreign lender will ask President Tinubu if he is sure he will meet his obligations with the way MTN is being treated, it is at that point that this Reno will know that this area is not an area for baboons.
Come and beat me
